On this tour, the walking difficulty level is Medium to Difficult! You’ll walk approximately 6 km, climb a scenic stairway, cross one of the longest suspension bridges in the world, and enjoy an unforgettable lunch experience!
We depart from Porto towards the charming town of Arouca, where we’ll make a short stop for coffee and restrooms.
Get ready for adventure! After a brief drive, we reach the first highlight of the day: the stairway ascent. It’s certainly challenging, but incredibly beautiful and truly unforgettable.
At the top, prepare yourself for an extraordinary experience — crossing one of the longest pedestrian suspension bridges in the world: the 516 Arouca Bridge. Stretching 516 meters (1,692 ft) across the valley and suspended 175 meters (576 ft) above the Paiva River, this bridge offers breathtaking views and an adrenaline rush like no other.
We are official guides of the bridge, with guaranteed tickets and an exclusive time slot, ensuring a smooth and stress-free experience.
After crossing the bridge, you’ll continue along the famous Paiva Walkways, descending along a wooden boardwalk that zigzags down the left bank of the river (Areinho–Vau trail). The scenery along the way is simply stunning.
The walk is followed by another highlight of our day: lunch! A delicious and well-deserved meal awaits you in a beautiful setting, featuring a farm-to-table style menu. Meat, fish, and vegetarian options are available.
After lunch, you’ll have approximately 30 minutes of free time to explore Arouca’s town center and get a glimpse of the local culture, traditions, and history.
Finally, we return to Porto, bringing an unforgettable day to a close.

Tour Reviews
I loved the views. It was a nice quiet walk along the river. Our guide was easy to talk to and gave us a wealth of information on Porto and Portugal.
Amazing outdoor adventure
There are a lot of steps at the beginning (400) and steps along the way as well. Beautiful scenery as you walk along the river, no benches to sit on until you hit the midway point. The suspension bridge is amazing! You go across and return, then begin you 8 km walk. It does require a certain level of fitness to complete the trail. The lunch and deserts were very tasty. Our driver/guide Thomas was very knowledgeable and entertaining and it made for an enjoyable drive.
Everything was beautiful….
Everything was beautiful. Our guide Thomas was very informative and the day ran
smoothly. An authentic lunch and traditional sweets were much needed after the hike.
Highly recommend and Thomas was great!!
One of the best tours I’ve ever been on!
Awesome experience. Roberto our guide was the best! Very knowledgeable and he did very well under pressure. When we returned from the bridge and walkway we found out there was no power in all of Portugal and Spain. He was responsible for driving us to a small town for lunch and an hour drive back to Porto. The lunch was fantastic even though there was no power. Traffic was crazy with no lights and people everywhere because trains were out ect. Roberto got us back on time despite the circumstances.
The bridge was not as frightening as I thought. Extraordinary views. The walkways down is 8k of wooden steps and rock and gravelI takes about 1 1/2 – 2 hours to get down if you take pictures along the way.
Highly recommended tour

Don’t miss this trip!
If you’re in Porto do this trip its amazing! Organisation, food and activity first class. We were lucky that it was a lovely warm day.
João was perfect!!! He communicated well with the entire group. It was nice having a group of only of (8) people so that we wouldn’t get lost in a crowd. We had a great group, and João was kind enough not to interrupt the natural chemistry, until it was needed. The tour was exactly as advertised, so if you didn’t read and were not prepared to walk, you should’ve read better! 😉 But in all honesty, I purposefully choose this tour because it had the big bridge crossing first and going DOWN the staircase near the beginning. It’s still a walk not for the feint of heart, so per their recommendations, bring water and good shoes. (Also, prepare your bladder!) The hike itself was gorgeous and full of majestic scenes! The path was well maintained! The stop in the town before and after the walk was an authentic view into the Portuguese way of life away from the tourist scene! It was absolutely lovely with wonderful food and desserts! Well needed after the hike. 5 stars to João and the tour!
Fantastic trip out near Porto
Our whole holiday was originally planned due to seeing this one experience online. Loved the pictures and the adventure of it so our destination was decided. Completely worth it for this trip alone. An amazing day out with a brilliant tour guide (Mauro) who was very knowledgeable about the area, as he’s local, the history and most other subjects related to Portugal! The bridge has timed tickets so they can manage the number of people who can cross (it’s a suspension bridge so there is a little bounce). The best part is that the walkways are all downhill and your guide meets you at the bottom. Spectacular views, great opportunity to meet new people, a chance to see a local village and try local cuisine. The pre-arranged lunch was one of the best we had in Portugal. Cannot fault this tour at all, easy to book and we have now used Viator on several occasions – never disappointed.
First class tour from start to finish. (My teenage sons are not generally fans of tours as they don’t like to be on a schedule…they both loved this one). Very well-partnered with Ennetours too who provide excellent guides, comfortable transport, keep to schedule and are very personable.
Great day in the open – something different from being city bound.
Julioh was a great guide with the unexpected and wonderful addition of literary commentary! The suspension bridge was awesome with amazing views and well worth the experience. The Paiva walkways were easy downhill and followed the beautiful river. The lunch strip was authentic Portuguese both mains and sweets treats.
João is a great guide, very respectful and thoughtful. We had a wonderful experience.
Amazing experience
Booked a tour with Viator and partners. Easy place to meet and get driven to the site. Cannot fault this day trip, great guide (Mauro very personable, informative and great sense of humour, keeping us all entertained with anecdotes during the drive).
Stopped at a beautiful village on way there which is also where we came back to for an excellent lunch… absolutely divine local food.
The bridge is an amazing sight and well-managed, information given by bridge guides and nice to do the crossing in a controlled way. Slightly hair-raising if I’m honest but a real sense of achievement when completing.
The Walkways easy to do as the tour has been designed to follow steps downhill!
Fantastic day, met some lovely people and great family memory.
