Guimarães and Braga Private Tour

Norberto has a vast knowledge of Portuguese history and and does an excellent job of sharing it. The visit to Braga and Guimaraes was a wonderful experience. We certainly enjoyed this adventure with Norberto.

Throughout the planning process and the tours, we experienced expertise, courtesy, and quality service. Norberto picked us up in Porto for our first day tour, which included Guimarães, Bom Jesus do Monte, and Braga. He gave us a wonderful history lesson as he guided us through the different sites and activities, and we appreciated that the day appropriately began in Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal. He cleverly scheduled our activities so that we avoided most of the crowds and large tour groups. We were also grateful for his strategy of touring Bom Jesus do Monte by starting at the top and walking down rather than climbing up the 381-foot zig zag Baroque stairway. A few days later, Luis picked us up at our hotel in the Douro Valley to transfer us to Lisbon with stops in Nazaré and Óbidos. It was a long drive, but Luis made the trip a lot of fun for us and never rushed us during our stops. Everything about our tours was first class and exceeded our expectations! This was a full day tour to Braga and Guimarães, north of Porto. The guide was superb – very personable, knowledgeable, and a great story teller. He explained why Guimarães why it is considered to be the birthplace of Portugal. The history of the castle was fascinating. We also visited the Palace of the Dukes. Braga is beautiful-the Garden of Santa Barbara and the cathedral are a must-see. The Bom Jesus do Monte is spectacular, and it is worth doing the 680 steps to see the fountains themed on the 5 senses.

Norberto was fabulous. He picked us up at the riverboat and spent the day with us showing us the best parts of Braga and Guimaraes. His knowledge of the area was outstanding. The van was comfortable and he dropped us off at our hotel when we finished the day. I highly recommend him.

Norberto was so accommodating from the moment I contacted him several months ago. We only had 1 free afternoon in Porto and he managed to switch with another couple to take us. His knowledge of the history of Portugal was amazing. He presented everything in chronological order so it was easy to follow. I can see why he used to be a history teacher. In the 5 hours we spent with him we had a relaxing but thorough tour of the cradle of the Portuguese nation. We learned not only the history of this amazing country but also the current culture. I’ll be back and not hesitate to contact Norberto to show me more to the fascinating Porto area.

Wonderful trip. Norberto picked us up on time on a nice clean van, was very professional and had a great knowledge of Portuguese history. More important it was more like going with a friend than tour guide. Norberto provided a wonderful historical tour of Guimaraes and Braga with a little “local” history thrown in. Lunch was delicious! Noberto was a fantastic guide. I have taken tours all over the world, and he is one of the most knowledgeable guides that I have encountered. I was lucky enough to take this tour on my first day in Portugal, and his detailed history of northern Portugal and how it was relevant to each stop actually made my entire trip better by giving me a unique historical perspective of the region and the country. Braga and Guimaraes are two excellent stops, and I often see it recommended that a day in each is better, but I felt like the time at each location was perfect.

Nuestro guía y chofer Norberto Pinto nos permitió conocer al máximo las atracciones que visitamos, desde el Castillo y el Palacio de Guimaraes hasta los santuarios de Braga.
Fue un viaje muy completo, lleno de lugares que desconocía. La experiencia de subir a los dos santuarios (Bom Jesus y Sameiro), el teleférico, el castillo… Todo era formidable y además siempre las explicaciones y la conversación de Norberto que ayudaban a conocer el contexto.
Además, se adecuaba a nuestro ritmo, considerando que yo viajaba con mi madre, que tiene 85 años, pero que se divirtió mucho.
