Tour Reviews
We had such a great day outside Porto, seeing everything from different angles. It was so frightening to walk across the bridge, but I’m so happy we managed to do it. The Pavia walkways were beautiful to explore, and the sightseeing in Aveiro was so lovely too. What an amazing day
Guide super. Très gentil et raconte des belles histoires.
Walkways
This is a long day with a lot of walking, good trainers or hiking shoes are a must. Bring water with you. The views on the way to each location are amazing as is the valley as you do the walkways. We had Danny as our guide and he was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and interactive with the 8 of us in the van.
Wonderful Day Trip from Porto
Very busy day. Wear good footwear. Lots to see. Steep hills to walk so be prepared. Very worthwhile tour.
Our guide Tomas was very good. Friendly , knowledgeable and shared many good facts with the group. The fish lunch was an disappointment as it was tasteless .A tin of sardies would would have been better. Unfortunately I sat squeesed between the frond door and a very large person in the middle that took over agood portion of my seat. To avoid this overzised persons should book extra large seats. De walk on the bridge and walkway afterwards was most enjoyable. Also the visit to Alveira and canal trip wentwell.
We had a fantastic experience on this tour! It was fun, engaging, and never boring. The views along the Paiva River trails were absolutely stunning, making the hike truly memorable. The lunch was delicious and very filling. Our guide, Costa, was witty and entertaining, and he shared the history of the area in a very interesting and engaging way. Thank you for a wonderful day! Highly recommended.
Highly recommend!
Everything about this was fantastic! The early pickup was the hardest part for me, not because of the time, but because Porto isn’t “awake” by 730 (including no breakfast at my accommodation). We did stop for about 10 minutes prior to arriving at the bridge, but a little more time would be helpful for those of us who needed to eat and grab a coffee to start the day. The drive, the suspension bridge, the Paiva walk–all totally great. Lunch was easy and delicious in a no-frills family owned type place (choices were pork, patinga (sardines), or a wonderful omelet for us vegetarians), with fries (“chips”), rice and plentiful water and green wine. Off for a quick stop in Calcado (the stripe house town) and then onto about 90 minutes in Aveiro. Personally, I would have been fine skipping Calcado for more time in Aveiro, but I know people like to see the ocean and the “insta worthy” houses. I am utterly mortified I cannot remember our guide’s name, but he was fabulous–the right amount of chatty v. quiet, filled us in every step of the way, respected our need to nap in the van, etc. The other only suggestion I have would be to keep bottles of water in the van as a super nice bonus touch. I’m glad this trip was a small group (though we sort of caravanned with 3 other vans) because a larger vehicle on some of those roads would be nauseating. Opa!
Grand day out
This tour was really enjoyable. Danny, our guide, was interesting, interested and entertaining. The suspension bridge was spectacular and having a dedicated entry time meant no queuing or other such tiresomeness . The walk over the bridge itself is pretty easy – not too much wobble or slipperiness, and I managed just fine in sandals (not flip-flops). It is high – and I’m not good with heights – but the views are gorgeous.
The walkway was really great. It’s steep – thank goodness we were going down haha – and on a hot day there isn’t a massive amount of shade, but when there is some its delicious. Lots of viewing platforms for you to ooh and ahh at the heights, the lush vegetation, the fabulous views, waterfalls , rock formations, and the sounds of birdsong and rushing water – and seeing the bridge from below gives a real sense of scale.
We stopped for a nice lunch (I didn’t like my own pick, but other people’s looked good!) then onwards to see the cute striped houses and some Atlantic rollers at Costa Nova, followed by a visit to Aveiro. My husband and I passed on the completely optional boat tour as there was no shade and we preferred to explore the town on foot (and may or may not have stopped for a sangria in a nice praça while were at it haha). Pretty town with some lovely buildings – reminded me more of Murano than of Venice (but without the glassblowing obviously)
Our final highlight was Danny pointing out the many storks, some with babies, on their nests as we left the town – of course this is season-dependent!
It’s a fairly long day, as we left at 07:45, and arrived back in Porto at around 5pm, but there are plenty of opportunities to rest in the car/minivan – and the strenuous stuff is all before lunch.
My only real criticism is if the tour is full booked with 8 people, the passenger who has to sit in the middle of the front row of seats of the car will have little leg-room and may be somewhat uncomfortable. Having said that, I still heartily recommend.
Lovely combination of walking, sightseeing and relaxing. We had al really nice guide (Costa), who kept checking in with all of us, talked about the history of Porto and was very friendly and relaxed the whole day. Would recommend it to friends.
It was a very good trip including a range of amazing locations
This was a brilliantly organised day from start to finish. The early start was absolutely worth it, as we reached the Arouca 516 footbridge before the crowds and while it was still cool. The views were exhilarating and despite its dramatic height, it felt completely safe. The walkways descending through the gorge afterwards offered equally stunning scenery. Lunch in Arouca was delicious — we chose grilled veal paired with the local green wine, which was outstanding. The second half of the day was more relaxed, with a lovely stop to see the colourful houses of Costa Nova, giving chance to see the ocean and feel the warm white Atlantic sand; a contrast to the morning’s dramatic landscapes. Aveiro was very pretty and the optional 45 min boat trip was the perfect addition. Tomás was an exceptional guide — calm, engaging, knowledgeable and friendly. He made us feel safe, informed and very well looked after. A wonderful day that I highly recommend.
The guide/driver was friendly and knowledgable.
het ochtendprogramma
Very cool trip, guide was very helpful, casual and he was talking about everything in a captivating way. Transport was very smooth and the Paiva walkways and Artura 516 were perfect timed thanks to our reserved timeslot.
sehr gut
The transport was comfortable and the guide Tomas drove carefully on some quite windy roads. Tomas talked knowledgeably and engagingly throughout the day. The walkways and the suspension bridge offer excellent views of the valley and are not at all scary. The lunch, including wine, was excellent. The fisherman’s village is picturesque and Aveila is pleasant enough to walk alongside the canals. A great day with Tomas, an excellent guide.
Perfect guide (Jay) and trip. Worth the WALK!
Treat yourself
João (Costa) was our tour guide for this wonderful adventure. His driving was excellent and his commentary revealed a deep knowledge of the area and an obvious pride in his home town and country.
There were quiet times in the vehicle, background music if desired and periods of chatting with other group members.
The lunch was delicious accompanied by water, wine and coffee as you desired.
There were adequate stops for comfort and time provided for solo exploration.
The bridge was awesome! Again, some history and then the walk across and back offering incredible vistas.
The walkway itself was stunning, a lot of steps down initially leading to about 3km of fairly flat going. Some shade was offered by trees and the team met us at the end where there were bathrooms and a cool air-conditioned vehicle waiting.
A totally brilliant day – thank you Costa.
Our guide Castro was knowledgeable about history and appreciative of the informationshared. It was a long day for but worth every location we went. The bridge experience was so cool!
Great trip with Danni, he made the day even more entertaining and pleasurable. Loved the suspension bridge and the walkways in particular. Lunch was more than enough. All round a super day out.
Excellent Northern Portugal Experience
This tour is a must do experience! Amazing scenic views walking across the suspension bridge with an up close view of the waterfall combined with the long walk scenic descent was well worth the time. Lunch with the locals was very good.l Our tour guide, Norberto, provided an excellent review of historical, cultural development.
Great day with our Guide Carlos 😀. I defenitely recommend this Tour. Thanks for this special experience!
Was a great day out.
Tolle Gruppe, super Ausflug!!!
Costa was an informative guide (and good driver)! Outgoing and funny … really easy to talk to (English). Bridge crossing was well done … and safe! Walk down on walkway was enjoyable at easy pace. Nice to visit Arouca, Casa Nova and Aveiro … (Arouca seems like a small town deserving of more time.) Very good lunch! A really well paced and organized tour. (And, Costa really was fantastic!)
Beautiful, our guide Reuben was awesome. Very informative and great stories
Wszystko było Super. Przejście mostem rewelacyjne Schodzenie kladkami i zwiedzanie parku cudownePyszny Lunch w bardzo dobrym zintegrowanym towarzystwie. Kolorowe domki plaza I lody Super. Portugalska Wenecja przepiękna zwiedzanie łodzią rewelacyjne. Przewodnik Tomas niesamowity. Skarbnica wiedzy uśmiechnięty i bardzo życzliwy. Polecam te wycieczke było cudownie
Very memorable trip and definitely worth doing to get out of the city and see more of the surrounding area!
piękne widoki i super przewodnik Costa
We had a great day, we where very lucky with perfect weather
Etwas lange Fahrzeiten. Gruß an Dani, Benfika und Borussia!!!
This experience is an amazing day out! Our guide Ricardo was extremely kind and easy to talk to and he went above and beyond to make sure we had a great day. The bridge was so cool and the view was breathtaking. I would definitely recommend!
Rubin our guide was exceptional with his knowledge but also had a great personality and sense of humor which was a delight. We had an amazing experience from start to finish – with a diverse group whom were lovely! Highly recommend Rubin as your guide!
A fun adventure with lots of steps. All of the guides were friendly, but Jay made the adventure unforgettable. I did not expect to get so much Portuguese history in addition to the bridge. Then you get a wonderful 3.7k walk that is stunning and not too hard.
You hit 2 different towns, plenty of time to explore, eat and drink if you want.
This was a good experience overall, but I have to say our guide Jay made it so fun and engaging. Talking history, politics (without a side) funny stories. Made the adventure personal and unforgettable.
