Los senderos de madera de Paiva son un bello paseo que zigzaguea por la ladera rocosa junto a la orilla izquierda del río Paiva, en el Geoparque de Arouca, sitio Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la UNESCO.

The most recent attraction is… The second Longest Pedestrian Suspension Bridge in the World!

Named Arouca 516, the brand new Paiva Walkway Pedestrian Bridge, stretching 516 metres over the valley. La pasarela tiene 1,20 m de ancho y se suspende a 175 m sobre el río Paiva.

Please notice: Crossing the bridge is absolutely optional. You can stick to the normal Paiva Walkways trail and skip the bridge.

¡25 cosas que debes saber antes de visitar las Paiva Walkways!

1 – The Paiva Walkways are a World Travel Awards Winner: got the “Oscar” for The Most Innovative European Project, in 2016; Europe’s Leading Tourism Development Project, in 2017; Europe’s Leading Adventure Tourist Attraction”, in 2018; World’s Leading Adventure Tourist Attraction, in 2019;

2 – La extensión del recorrido es de 8,7 km - 5,4 millas, siempre en la margen izquierda del río Paiva, que es uno de los ríos más limpios de Europa.

3 – El recorrido tiene un grado de dificultad medio, dependiendo de su nivel físico, y se tarda entre 2 h 30 min y 3 h en recorrerlo (en promedio).

4 – Se permite la entrada a niños, que deben estar siempre acompañados por adultos.

5 – It is forbidden the entry of animals, prams/strollers, bicycles, motorcycles or any kind of motor vehicles (not wheelchair friendly);

6 – Durante el recorrido, evite hacer ruido, no recoja plantas, muestras de rocas y no deje basura atrás. Tampoco se puede fumar;

7 – Para su propia seguridad, existen teléfonos SOS a lo largo del recorrido;

8 – A pesar de que hay cafés al inicio, en el medio y al final del recorrido, no siempre están abiertos, por lo que es mejor traer agua y aperitivos.

9 – Le recomendamos que lleve calzado y ropa cómodos, sombrero, protector solar y gafas de sol (hay poca sombra a lo largo del recorrido);

10 – Don’t be scared: you might find animals along the way such goats, sheep’s or cows. They are totally inoffensive and you will enjoy to meet them (about wolves, well, it is very unlikely to spot them during day light!);

11 – Puede comenzar su caminata en Espiunca o en Areinho. No obstante, por experiencia, le recomiendo que empiece en el Areinho. De esta forma, el recorrido será siempre en descenso, lo que hace el paseo más agradable (aunque, en el caso de un paseo de ida y vuelta, le recomiendo empezar en Espiunca).

12 – Existen parques de estacionamiento en ambas extremidades de los senderos.

• Espiunca: 40°59’34.67″N | 8°12’41.19″W

13 – Existen servicios de taxi en ambas extremidades del recorrido que pueden llevarle de vuelta al aparcamiento donde ha estacionado su vehículo (espere pagar entre 15 y 18 euros).

14 – If you do the Paiva Walkways on your own, plan to stay for the day: keep in mind that there are several river beaches along the way (Vau beach is the most well-known). Bring your picnic and swimming suit! And don’t forget to buy your tickets online beforehand!

15 – Tickets: keep in mind that tickets are NOT available anymore at the entrance. You need to purchase them online. To do so, this is the official website: www.passadicosdopaiva.pt

16 – The second Longest Suspension Footbridge of the World: there’s are separated tickets: one for the Walkways, another for the Footbridge. You can buy both or just one, depending on what you wanna do. Notice again: crossing the Arouca 516 Footbridge is merely an option. All Footbridge details here.

17 – Limited tickets! There is a limited number of people per day – 2500. You might wanna plan it well and buy your ticket in advance. Talk with us if you can’t get a ticket.

18 – Durante el verano, evite iniciar el recorrido entre las 11 y las 15 h debido al intenso calor; hágalo antes o después de ese periodo.

19 – Durante la época alta, especialmente en junio, julio y agosto, si tiene la oportunidad, evite los fines de semana y festivos. Los aparcamientos estarán muy concurridos y pueden quedarse increíblemente llenos;

20 – Always consult the official website on the day before your walk schedule. Sometimes, the Paiva Walkways are forced to close down due to severe weather causing floods on the Paiva river or the threatening of wild fires in summer;

21 – Si viene en autocaravana o camper, podrá pernoctar de forma gratuita en el aparcamiento de Espiunca o del Areinho. No hay servicios, pero hay baños públicos y duchas frías.

22 – There’s no easy connection to the Walkways either from Porto or Aveiro. There’s no direct buses or trains. The best way to save time and money its to join one of our tours or rent a car. If you are driving, be prepared for narrow, winding roads! (1h driving distance from Porto or Aveiro).

23 – For those who have car motion sickness problems: to arrive to the Paiva Walkways, you need to go over the mountain. The road gets curvy. We strongly advise you to have a tablet or a pill to help with that issue. Just in case!

24 – Los pasadizos solo están abiertos desde el amanecer hasta el atardecer. El horario es el siguiente:

• De mayo a septiembre: de las 8 h a las 20 h (la última entrada es a las 17 h).
• De noviembre a marzo: de las 9 h a las 17 h (la última entrada es a las 14 h).
• De abril a octubre: de las 9 h a las 18 h (la última entrada es a las 15 h).
